Double wall exists for one reason: no sleeve. Two layers of board with an air gap between them keep an 8oz coffee holdable at serve temperature, and the second wall lets a café print the outside without the print sitting over a hot surface. KaiLai's DW-8oz is built at 80mm top, 56mm base and 90mm high on 210-350GSM food-grade white, kraft or bamboo paper, with PE lamination, PLA lining or PBS coating, printed flexo or offset up to 7 colours. A double wall cup is specified when a café has decided it will not hand out sleeves. The second wall is not decoration: the air gap between the two paper layers does the insulating, so the outer surface stays near room temperature while the cup holds coffee at 85°C. The trade-off is cost and pack density — a double wall uses roughly twice the board of a single wall and stacks less tightly, which is why carton loads are lower and why double wall is used for the sizes customers hold longest.
8oz double wall hot cup — 80 × 56 × 90mm
The 8oz is the size where double wall pays for itself fastest. A flat white or a small latte is held for several minutes and passed between hands, and it is the size most often served without a tray — so the cup is the handle. Two 8oz diameters are produced: 80mm top at 90mm high, and 90mm top at 85.5mm high. They hold the same volume but take different lids, which matters if a shop already stocks 90mm lids for its 12oz cups and wants one lid across the menu.
Two 8oz diameters, 8oz to 24oz on one build
Board runs 210-350GSM in white, kraft, natural bamboo or bleached bamboo paper. The higher weights are what a double wall is usually specified at, because the outer layer has to hold its shape while the inner layer carries the liquid. Coating options are PE lamination, PLA lining and PBS coating — the PLA route is what makes a compostable double wall possible, since both layers have to be lined. Printing is flexo or offset up to 7 colours, and because the outer wall is a separate sheet, a shop can print a full-wrap design without the ink sitting against the hot inner wall. MOQ 50,000pcs; carton loads fall from 1,155 per 40HQ at 8oz to 295 at 24oz.
